Coffee Garden

7.5
Bergpolder

Bergselaan runs quiet and leafy through Bergpolder, and Coffee Garden fits that register exactly. Founders Nikita and Sophie opened the space in summer 2026 with a clear intention: this is as much a tasting room as it is a cafe, and the layout backs that up, with retail shelves of whole-leaf tea and freshly roasted beans sitting alongside the bar.

Zus en Kees

7.5
Bergpolder

Walk in on a weekday morning and you'll find the tables doing double duty: coffee cups sharing space with stationery displays, ceramic mugs for sale sitting a few feet from the ones actually in use. Zus en Kees is run by sisters Eef and Maaike alongside Eef's husband Kees, and the three-way ownership shows in how the space is split between espresso bar and lifestyle shop without either side feeling like an afterthought.

✦ The area

Two good cafés, borrowed reputation

Bergpolder is a 1920s-30s residential grid north of Rotterdam Centraal, better known for the Bergpolderflat than for anything happening in a cup. Coffee here has never been the draw, and the neighbourhood has never pretended otherwise.

The two venues worth naming, Zus en Kees and Coffee Garden, both skew toward sit-down comfort rather than quick counter service. Zus en Kees works as a concept-store living room with Giraffe Coffee Roasters beans and the sisters' father's boterkoek; Coffee Garden leans botanical and does proper pour-over alongside a serious tea and matcha retail wall. Neither is a grab-and-go stop, and neither pretends to be part of a wider scene, because there isn't one within Bergpolder's own streets.

Go on a weekday morning if you want either place at its best: Zus en Kees for a window seat and cake, Coffee Garden for an unhurried pour-over or a tasting workshop if your timing lines up. Weekends can tip either spot toward families and regulars rather than passers-through, so don't expect fast turnover.

Bergpolder coffee questions

Is Bergpolder worth visiting for coffee?

Only in passing. Zus en Kees and Coffee Garden are both genuinely good for what they are, a concept-store café and a botanical coffee-and-tea bar, but two venues don't make a scene. If coffee is the goal, Rotterdam Noord's Zwaanshals strip a short tram ride away offers more to work with.

What's the best coffee shop in Bergpolder?

Coffee Garden, and it's not close. It scores higher, does a proper Ethiopian Yirgacheffe pour-over, and runs weekend tasting workshops, whereas Zus en Kees is more concept store and cake counter than coffee destination.

Can I work on a laptop in Bergpolder cafés?

Coffee Garden is laptop-friendly and set up for lingering. Zus en Kees is not, it reads more as a living-room concept store built for browsing and short visits than for settling in with a screen.

Is Bergpolder walkable for a coffee crawl?

Not really. With only two notable venues and no cluster of roasters or bars nearby, there's no route to speak of within the neighbourhood itself, unlike Zwaanshals just over the border in Noord.
