✦ The verdict
“Most neighbourhood cafes treat matcha as an afterthought on a menu built around espresso. Coffee Garden gives the Uji matcha and the Ethiopian Yirgacheffe pour-over equal billing, and the complimentary grind-matching on retail bags shows the same instinct toward education rather than just turnover. The room is bright and plant-heavy, built for lingering over a single-origin cup rather than rushing one down.”

Bergselaan runs quiet and leafy through Bergpolder, and Coffee Garden fits that register exactly. Founders Nikita and Sophie opened the space in summer 2026 with a clear intention: this is as much a tasting room as it is a cafe, and the layout backs that up, with retail shelves of whole-leaf tea and freshly roasted beans sitting alongside the bar.
The coffee program runs on their own roasts, sourced from Brazil, Colombia, and Ethiopia. The house espresso, called Fleur de Miel, leans into honey and almond sweetness with ripe yellow fruit underneath, comfortable rather than aggressive. But the more interesting order is the pour-over. Ask for the Ethiopian Yirgacheffe and you get the citrus-and-florals profile that origin is known for, brewed with the kind of attention that suggests the founders care more about showing the bean off than moving through a queue quickly.
Matcha gets the same seriousness. It's ceremonial-grade, sourced direct from Uji, and the iced matcha latte is the drink locals seem to order on repeat, milk and ice doing little to dull the vegetal intensity of good matcha. If you're the type who finds most cafe matcha thin and sweetened into blandness, this is worth the detour.
Food runs toward panini and yoghurt granola bowls, vegetarian and vegan options both covered, nothing that pretends to be a full kitchen but enough to make a slow morning here feel complete. The room itself leans botanical, plants worked into every corner, low music, the kind of place where laptop work is tolerated but not the whole point. Power outlets are limited, so it rewards people who came to actually taste something rather than post up for a full workday.
What separates Coffee Garden from the standard neighbourhood specialty spot is the retail and education layer underneath the cafe. Weekend workshops on brewing and matcha preparation run regularly, and if you buy beans to take home, they'll grind them to match your setup on the spot, filter, espresso, whatever you're running. It's a small detail, but it signals a shop more interested in how you make coffee at home than in just selling you a bag and sending you off.
Bergpolder isn't a neighbourhood typically associated with destination coffee, sitting just across from the better-known Liskwartier. Coffee Garden gives it a genuine reason to be one.
