White Label Coffee roasts its own single-origin beans on-site in Oud West, pulling them on a Kees van der Westen Spirit.

✦ The verdict
“Two Dutch competition wins, the 2015 Aeropress Championship and 2019 Roast Masters, aren't decorations here, they're the baseline. The Kees van der Westen Spirit is dialled with the kind of confidence that comes from roasting your own beans on-site. Order the double naked and watch the extraction before you do anything else.”
— The DFC Editors
Walk into White Label Coffee and the roaster isn't hidden in a back room, it's right there, part of the room, part of the point. Francesco Grassotti and Elmer Oomkens, who met at Espressofabriek before founding this place in 2014, have built something that feels less like a café and more like a working expression of how they think coffee should be handled: grown somewhere specific, roasted here, served straight.
The Kees van der Westen Spirit dominates the bar in the way that machine tends to, sculptural, precise, not subtle. The house espresso is pulled through a bottomless portafilter as standard, and the double naked shot is the thing to order if you want to understand what the current roast is doing. The bean rotation pulls from Ethiopia, Rwanda, Colombia, Guatemala, Brazil, and Indonesia, and the single-origin focus means the menu shifts as the sourcing does. Filter options run from V60 to Chemex to Aeropress to batch brew, with the EK 43 doing the grinding work, it's a programme that takes filter as seriously as espresso, which isn't a given even in Amsterdam's better cafés.
The interior earns its Scandinavian-minimal comparisons: wood, plants, multiple levels, natural light where it finds its way in. The multi-level layout gives the space a density that keeps it from feeling sparse, and the crowd on any given morning is a reliable mix of neighbourhood regulars, freelancers nursing a V60, and coffee tourists who've done their homework. The banana bread and apple pie are worth the addition to your order, not an afterthought, genuinely good.
White Label won the Dutch Aeropress Championship in 2015 and took the Roast Masters competition in 2019. Those credentials show in the consistency. The extraction is controlled, the milk work is clean, and the sourcing is legible on the menu rather than buried in small print. Beans and brewing equipment are available to take home, which a meaningful number of people do.
Power outlets are deliberately limited, the owners are open about why, so treat it as a place to drink coffee well rather than a place to grind through a deadline.
