✦ The verdict
“Uncommon roasts its own beans and means it, the origins list runs from Sidama to Panama Geisha to a Burundi Red Bourbon, and the filter bar treats each one differently. Come for the coffee, stay because the cinnamon buns make leaving difficult. This is a room that asks you to be present, and the La Marzocco gives you a reason to comply.”

What to expect
Uncommon Coffee doesn't announce itself loudly. The interior is spare, Nordic-inflected, light-washed, unhurried, and the menu is built around the idea that the coffee itself has enough to say. Which, given the origin list, it does.
The roasting operation runs in-house, and the sourcing reads like a serious buying programme: Sidama and Suke Quto from Ethiopia, SL28 and SL34 from Kenya, a washed Geisha from Peru, a Pink Bourbon from Colombia, and, for those who track these things, a Panama Geisha alongside a Costa Rican Baby Geisha. The breadth is deliberate. Co-founders Claye Tobin, Josh Cotton, and Nina Tromp have built the programme around microclimates, altitude, and processing method, and those details are legible on the menu rather than buried on a website.
The La Marzocco Linea PB handles espresso duties, and the filter and pour-over options rotate with the sourcing calendar. The Uncommon Filter is the clearest expression of what this place is about, whatever's on that day will be specific, traceable, and roasted to let the origin speak rather than the roast level. If you're deciding between espresso and filter, lean filter.
The Cold Brew Coconut Latte is worth noting for warmer months: cold brew is easy to get wrong, and the coconut addition could easily tip into sweetness, but the balance here is controlled.
Food leans plant-based and seasonal, the cinnamon buns and croissants have built a reputation independently of the coffee, which is saying something in a city that takes its bakery seriously. The mushroom toast and acai bowl fill out the brunch end of the menu without overreaching.
One thing worth knowing before you arrive: this is a laptop-free space. The decision shapes the room, conversations happen, people linger over a second coffee rather than a second tab. If you need to work, plan accordingly. If you don't, it's a quieter proposition than most of Oud West's café options.
A second location, Uncommon Bar, has opened across the street, reportedly focused on more exclusive offerings and evening service. Worth checking if the main café is full or if you're curious about what the next tier of the programme looks like.
