✦ The verdict

A weekday workspace where the rotating roaster board actually matters

“Jorre de Jong learned his trade in Melbourne, and it shows in the rotation: Shokunin, Sprout, Schot, and Grounded all get counter time rather than sitting as menu decoration. The La Marzocco is dialled to whatever single-origin is featured that week, and the V60 program treats filter as a genuine option, not an afterthought. Shared desks and steady wifi mean the room fills with laptops as much as conversation.”

Set within Rotterdam's Broeinest creative hub, Bonza pairs a dedicated single-origin coffee program and Melbourne-inspired hospitality with a stellar rotating multi-roaster roster. While its weekday-only hours cater heavily to the coworking crowd, the thoughtful V60 offerings and expert bean curation make it a standout specialty destination.

Bonza Koffie occupies a corner of Broeinest, the materials library and design studio space in ZOHO, and the crossover shows. Big windows, shared desks, and an open industrial layout make it read as much like a co-working space as a cafe, and on a weekday morning it fills accordingly with laptops, sketchbooks, and the low hum of people actually getting things done.

Founder Jorre de Jong spent years as a head barista in Melbourne before opening this place in 2020, and the influence is direct rather than decorative. Instead of committing to a single house roaster, Bonza rotates through Shokunin, Sprout, Schot, Grounded, Manhattan, and Giraffe, so the counter board is worth checking each visit. Origins lean Ethiopia, Colombia, Peru, and Costa Rica, and whichever bean is up gets run through both the espresso and batch brew grinders, which means the flat white and the drip coffee can taste like entirely different cafes depending on the week.

The V60 program is the more interesting order if you have ten minutes. Filter here isn't a token line item, it's brewed to order from whatever micro-lot is currently in rotation, and the acidity and clarity shift with the origin in a way that rewards asking the barista what's on that day. The Coco Matcha, made with coconut and oat milk, is a solid non-coffee option if you're working through the afternoon and want to taper the caffeine.

Food runs toward the kind of lunch that justifies staying past your coffee: toasted sourdough sandwiches, breakfast bowls, and a kimchi and aged cheese tosti that's become something of a house signature. Vegan and dairy-free options are built into the menu rather than bolted on.

The catch, and it's worth knowing before you plan a visit, is that Bonza keeps strictly weekday hours and closes mid-afternoon. This is a workday cafe serving the architects, designers, and freelancers of the surrounding ZOHO quarter, not a weekend destination. If you want the rotating roaster board and the shared-desk energy, come on a Tuesday. If you're hoping for a lazy Saturday flat white, you'll find the door locked.
