Luuk's Coffee Noordermarkt pulls consistent Spot On Coffee espresso steps from Amsterdam's famous Saturday market.

✦ The verdict
“Luuk's runs Spot On Coffee through a tight espresso-only menu, cortados, flat whites, cappuccinos, and does each one properly. On a Saturday market morning the queue spills toward the street, but it moves. The almond croissant is worth holding onto while you wait.”

The Pull of the Neighbourhood
On market days, the Noordermarkt square hums with a particular kind of Amsterdam energy, canvas bags, bicycle bells, the smell of stroopwafels. Luuk's Coffee sits directly opposite, and it absorbs all of that without losing its own focus.
Founded by Luuk Nijsen in late 2021, the bar is compact and deliberately so. This is a place built around the counter, not around the chair. The menu is short: espresso classics, a handful of milk options including oat and pea, and a small rotation of baked goods. That restraint is a statement of intent.
The coffee comes from Spot On Coffee, and the extraction is taken seriously. The cortado is the drink to order, the ratio is controlled, the milk texture is tight, and the espresso holds its character rather than disappearing into the steam. Flat whites are equally reliable. There is no filter programme here, and the menu doesn't pretend otherwise.
The almond croissant earns its reputation. Flaky, properly buttery, with enough frangipane filling to justify the calories. The vegan banana bread is thick-cut and worth it if you're staying for more than one round.
The crowd shifts through the day. Early weekday mornings bring commuters and regulars who order without looking at the menu. Saturday draws market traders grabbing a quick shot before their stalls fill up, and tourists who've wandered over from the square. The baristas handle the pace without theatre, orders move, the queue clears, nobody lingers at the counter longer than they need to.
The space itself is minimal: clean lines, no clutter, nothing competing with the coffee for attention. Nijsen's background in hospitality and interior design shows in what's been left out as much as what's been put in.
If you're coming to work for three hours, this isn't your spot. If you're coming for a well-made cortado and an almond croissant before a walk along the Jordaan canals, it's exactly right.
