NOUS brings a clean, light-filled specialty coffee experience to Amsterdam-Noord, with a La Marzocco Linea PB and a menu that goes well beyond espresso.
✦ The verdict
“The La Marzocco Linea PB is well-maintained and the flat white lands cleanly, but the magic lemonade, a butterfly-pea-tea colour-changer, is what people are photographing. Both deserve your attention. Noord is still finding its coffee identity; NOUS is one of the better arguments for making the ferry crossing.”

NOUS, Amsterdam-Noord
NOUS opened in 2025 and already feels like it belongs, the kind of place that a neighbourhood adopts quickly because it's doing something right without making a fuss about it.
The room is white and spare, with lilac details that stop it feeling clinical. Natural light does most of the work. The La Marzocco Linea PB sits on the counter like it means business, and the batch brew filter running alongside it signals that this isn't an espresso-only operation. There's no roaster listed on the menu as of the last visit, which is the one thing worth pressing the baristas on, they're the type who'll actually tell you.
The espresso programme is the anchor. Pull a flat white and the milk texturing is controlled, the extraction clean. Nothing showy, nothing sloppy. The batch brew is a reliable option for those who want something slower in the hand while they figure out their morning.
But NOUS earns its own identity through the things that sit outside the standard specialty playbook. The ceremonial grade matcha is taken seriously, not a powder-from-a-tin situation. The iced barista cacao with coconut milk has developed something of a following, and rightly so: it's rich without being heavy. Then there are the Nous Lemonades, ginger and purple tea, red fruit, which change colour as you drink them. It sounds gimmicky until you're holding one in the afternoon light and realise you've ordered a second.
Food runs to cinnamon buns, vegan banana bread, and coconut macaroons made in-house. It's a short list executed well, which is the right call for a space this size.
Owned by Louis Tomasoa and Koen van Meersbergen, NOUS has the feel of a project built with intention rather than investment. The baristas engage, not in a scripted way, but in the way that happens when people actually like what they're doing. Noord is still finding its rhythm as a neighbourhood, and NOUS is one of the reasons to cross the IJ and explore it.
