The space is small. That's not a caveat, it's the whole point. This isn't a place you set up camp with a laptop and a to-do list. You order, you stand, you drink. The cortado is the move: tight extraction, steamed milk with enough body to hold the espresso without smothering it. The ratio is right, the temperature is right, and it arrives without ceremony. That consistency, replicated across hundreds of orders a day, is harder to achieve than it looks.

The sourcing leans toward Ethiopian beans, and you can taste it in the cup, a brightness that stops short of sharp, fruit-forward without being cloying. The filter option is available for those who want to slow down, though the espresso programme is clearly where the focus sits. Milk alternatives include oat and pea milk, both handled with enough care that the texture on a flat white doesn't suffer.

Food is taken seriously enough to be worth ordering. The almond croissant is the obvious call, properly laminated, nutty, not oversweetened. Beyond pastries, the menu extends to sandwiches, soup, and salads, which makes Luuks a practical option for a working lunch if you can get a spot outside. The vegan banana bread has its own following.

On market days the energy outside is considerable, and the outdoor seating fills fast. Come mid-afternoon on a weekday and the pace drops enough that you can actually taste what's in your cup. The baristas are efficient without being brusque, they're clearly used to volume, but the service doesn't feel mechanical.
